Grand Seiko released its first watch in 1960, challenging the perception that the Swiss were the undisputed masters of fine watchmaking. In the nearly 60 years since the first Grand Seiko, the company has become known the world over for producing some of the most elegantly designed timepieces in the world while developing innovative technologies such as Spring Drive. Even while maintaining its high quality standards, it delivers tons of value in its watches, making it popular with collectors at all levels. In 2017, Grand Seiko became its own brand within Seiko’s expansive watchmaking portfolio.
The dial uses "Grand Seiko Blue," which is a special color that symbolizes the brand. The bright red color that illuminates the tip of the second hand reflects Grand Seiko's passion for manufacturing.
From the back lid of the see-through back, you can see the bright blue rotating weight made in the image of the sunrise of "Mt. Iwate" from Hachimantai in Iwate prefecture.
The inner outer circumference of the sapphire glass on the back lid is decorated with a red color that resembles a cloud of sunrise dyed in bright red.
The titanium material used for the rotary weight is anodized and has high elasticity and high vibration absorption. By reducing deformation due to impact and transmission of impact to the bearings of the movement and rotary weight, it also has practicality that can be used with greater peace of mind.
