Product Highlights
A compact case that fits comfortably on the wrist, this quartz model embodies Grand Seiko's essence of "accuracy," "beauty," "readability," and "long-lasting usability." These seemingly obvious elements have been pursued with sincerity and thoroughness, leading to the creation of the 9F quartz. Breaking free from conventional quartz norms, it incorporates numerous innovative features, culminating in the ultimate quartz watch. The case, with its distortion-free beautiful mirror finish and finely textured surface, quietly asserts its presence. With a meticulously calculated case size that fits beautifully on the wrist, it is a partner that exudes modest yet solid reassurance and trust. Grand Seiko Manufacture Grand Seiko is a true manufacture that handles everything in-house, from movement development to design, manufacturing, assembly, adjustment, inspection, and shipping. In an environment where each component can be researched and developed from the material level, cutting-edge technology is fused with the highest level of craftsmanship. The "Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi," overlooking the majestic Iwate Mountain, and the "Shinshu Takumi Studio," surrounded by the mountains and lakes of Shinshu, are where three movements are created in two workshops nurtured by rich nature. The Spirit of Takumi The Takumi of Grand Seiko continue to endlessly pursue the essence of time. This attitude resonates with the concept of "the way" seen in traditional Japanese martial arts, tea ceremony, and flower arrangement. By honing their skills and deepening their spirituality, this path becomes sharper and opens up new realms. To embody the ever-changing passage of time within a watch, they strive for ultimate precision, visibility, and aesthetic beauty. Creating a true ideal watch that shines eternally across generations is an endless challenge for the Takumi. Light and Shadow The Japanese delicately perceive, savor, and cherish the countless expressions created by light and shadow as time flows. The design is characterized by sharp, distortion-free flat surfaces and straight lines. The mirror finish, meticulously polished by exceptional craftsmanship, and the multi-faceted cut indices and thick hands create a symbolic design that produces beautiful expressions as light changes with time and place, shining brilliantly while maintaining high visibility. The 9F quartz is the result of questioning the essence of watches that seems so obvious. - Instantaneous date change calendar - A power source to drive thick, bold hands like a mechanical watch - Improved accuracy in indicating the second hand correctly - High airtight structure to enhance oil retention Incorporating numerous innovations that were unthinkable in conventional quartz, the 9F quartz has overturned the previous notion of "thin and light quartz" and boasts world-class performance. 【The birthplace of quartz watches and Spring Drive, Shinshu Takumi Studio】 Grand Seiko is a true "manufacture" that handles everything from movement design to development, manufacturing, assembly, adjustment, inspection, and shipping in-house, creating watches that fuse cutting-edge technology with the highest level of craftsmanship. The "Shinshu Takumi Studio," responsible for Grand Seiko's quartz watches and Spring Drive, is located in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture. In just five years since the introduction of Grand Seiko's quartz, it completed the world's highest-level quartz that surpassed previous norms while also creating the dream mechanism Spring Drive, developed over more than 20 years, showcasing innovative ideas and manufacturing techniques. 【Instantaneous date change calendar】 The 9F quartz employs an "instantaneous date change cam" that works in conjunction with a "date wheel," and an "instantaneous date change lever" that operates with that movement. As the "date wheel" rotates, it gradually bends the spring of the "instantaneous date change lever," storing energy, and when the cam reaches a certain position, the spring is instantaneously released, causing the date display to change instantly. While instantaneous date change calendars have been seen in mechanical watches, Grand Seiko was the first to implement this in a quartz watch. The task of aligning this switch moment with midnight is done manually by skilled assembly artisans, ensuring that the calendar does not change before it points to midnight, setting the standard between midnight and 5 minutes. 【"Slow-fast switch" for precision adjustment in quartz】 While mechanical watches have mechanisms for fine-tuning accuracy, quartz watches generally do not allow for precision adjustments even when the case back is opened. However, the 9F quartz features a "slow-fast switch" that allows for fine-tuning of accuracy. After using the watch for several years, when tendencies of gaining or losing time become apparent, this switch can be used to correct the accuracy. As you use the watch for many years, you will understand its "quirks," and by making adjustments to suit its personality, it becomes a watch that can accompany you for a longer time. However, the quartz crystal oscillator used in the 9F quartz is of the highest quality, having undergone special testing and aging, so the need for the "slow-fast switch" is rare. This is one of Grand Seiko's thoughtful considerations. 【Thick, heavy hands that accurately keep time with the "twin pulse control motor"】 In quartz watches, which generally have weaker torque than mechanical watches, it is not possible to move thick, heavy hands, so typically thin hour and minute hands are used. However, Grand Seiko's quartz models are equipped with thick, bold hands reminiscent of the original Grand Seiko. To accurately move such hands, the 9F quartz is equipped with a "twin pulse control motor" that can move heavy hands while saving energy. While the second hand of a standard quartz moves in one step per second, the 9F quartz moves in two steps per second. This is because it efficiently sends two signals per second to achieve high driving power and energy efficiency to turn thicker hands. Of course, this two-step movement is not perceivable to the naked eye and appears as a single step like conventional quartz watches. Furthermore, unlike other quartz watches, it employs a unique method of ultra-low power temperature compensation. Typically, quartz watches do not have temperature compensation programs for monthly accuracy. Additionally, if a temperature compensation program is included, it requires significant power for control, which shortens battery life. To address this issue, the 9F quartz adopts ultra-low power temperature compensation. By driving the unique "twin pulse control system" while reducing power consumption of the IC, it achieves approximately twice the driving power of conventional systems and a battery life of about three years, longer than typical quartz watches. 【Quartz oscillator aged for three months】 The high precision of the 9F quartz, achieving an annual difference of ±10 seconds, is made possible by using only quartz oscillators that have been selected after three months of aging, ensuring stable performance. The quartz oscillator vibrates 32,768 times per second, and the accuracy of quartz watches depends on whether this frequency can be maintained. There are individual differences in quartz oscillators, and some may fail to maintain stable frequency due to environmental changes or aging. Additionally, even if a quartz oscillator initially has high accuracy, its frequency may change over the years of use, leading to gains or losses in time. Recognizing this, Grand Seiko was the first in the world to adopt an "aging" method that ensures the frequency stabilizes before installation. The aging process, which involves applying a constant voltage and artificially providing voltage during selection, lasts for three months. Only quartz oscillators that pass this standard are installed in the 9F quartz.

Magnificent watches

I liked the watch very much. The seller has no questions. We sent the order right away. Delivery to Ukraine took 16 days, traveled across Europe for a very long time. Of course, the clock was stuck at customs, in addition to the duty, I had to pay the broker for customs clearance services (it was this moment that was unpleasant, because the customs authority was in another city and had to fork out another $ 38 for broker services and $ 100 for customs clearance). In any case, it turned out cheaper than buying such a watch in my country, although I expected it to be cheaper.

Ippo is fantastic! Love the watch! Super fast shipping!

First I just want to comment on the shipping speed. I ordered the watch on a Sunday in the USA and it was delivered the rolling Wednesday! 3 business days? That is what I am talking about. And now...

The Watch. Seiko SBDC101.. what more can you say? Classic 62mas style with the 6R movement, sapphire, DiaShield? Come one. This watch is a knock out! Absolutely in love with this watch. The machine finishing is top notch, it wears perfectly, and it's a real stunner! The sunburst dark grey bezel is beautiful out in the sun. Many of my customers have commented on the watch so far.

Right now this watch is hot along with the new Willard. Unfortunately they hard to come by at the moment. Ippo had it in stock at a price which I was better than anyone who had one in stock.

Definitely recommend buying any watch from Ippo. The fact that I received this item from Japan to the USA faster than other items I'm still waiting from from the USA says it all.
